Special Programmes
Keep It Real This programme was written and developed by Kids Company
with the intention of helping young people to develop the skills necessary
to improve efficiency of learning and attention relevant to education,
sport and business. The programme is based on cognitive and behavioural
models of strategy formation and uses these models to find realistic solutions
to the stumbling blocks. Role play will be used to identify what the actual
obstructions to success are. The solutions to these stumbling blocks are
taught in a mixture of role play and discussion within the group, guided
by the facilitator. The course also includes talks by entrepreneurs on
the personal strategies that they have used to maintain focus and efficiency
on their problem solving that has allowed them to succeed.
The ACE is intended to help young people become
fully independent in day to day problem solving. Bare Thread Bare Thread is our own clothing label which has been created to teach the young people about the fashion industry - an area which they are passionate about. This course is a fantastic outlet for their vibrant imaginations and explores garment-making techniques in a variety of ways. The idea came from a workshop of t-shirt printing and textile design which proved to be very successful. The objective is to give the young people a creative outlet, to develop a product that will bring them pride and confidence and to involve them in the different stages of the process of the fashion industry. The first collection of t-shirts was launched in February with the theme of 'Love'. This will be followed by the second collection in September 2006 which will be launched with a major catwalk show. |
